Experiments for school or home with a Glass Model of a fissure in a groove of a back tooth shows how chewing forces foods inside grooves and how chewing the foam strip helps force saliva and sealants or dental agents inside grooves to help remove trapped food and reduce acid attack where over 80% of cavities occur and the brush cannot reach.

The Glass Model is simply two strips of glass clamped together with a V shaped teflon gasket open at each end which simulates chewing food.
It will be noted that different foods are trapped inside the glass model from 0% to !00% and greatly increased when chewing fibre like celery or the foam.

Place coloured liquid, water, food saliva mix from chewing and chewing gum in different containers and simulate chewing, brushing or mouth wash activity.
Note how some foods replace others and some have no effect and the foam or fibre greatly enhance replacement of trapped foods or liquids.

Clamp a strip of foam to a piece of cardboard, metal or other stiff frame and duplicate the chewing process above for a comparison.

The foam strips in particular have open outer half cells, which quickly fill with the simulated saliva mix and extrude it under chewing pressure, greatly improving the sealing effect before eating and the cleaning effect after eating.

Translating these experiments into action.
These simple observations help develop a sense of when best to clean teeth with a brush and fluoride toothpaste and dental floss so there is little plaque at gum margins and between teeth throughout the day to change sugar in food, to acid.
Fillings and sealants applied by the dentist or chewing sealant food before eating helps prevent food being trapped and changed to acid while eating. There is no acid attack where saliva has sufficient access to tooth surfaces after eating to neutralise acid and repair demineralised tooth.

Chewing Barium Sulphate with the dental foam strip in the Supertooth Plaque Watch Kit before dental x-rays of back teeth, highlights where food is trapped in grooves and helps the dentist advise mineralisation therapy, sealants or fillings if necessary.

Chewing suitable foods or sugarless tablets or confection before eating can seal grooves in chewing surfaces of back teeth to help prevent food being trapped and changed to acid acid while eating. Fillings and fissure sealants that dentists place in grooves also prevent food being trapped and changed to acid.

Chewing the foam strip after eating helps remove trapped food and force saliva inside grooves and around teeth to neutralise acid and repair demineralised tooth. Chewing gum, a sealant tablet or confection with the foam adds flavour and helps remove food and seal grooves prior to the next meal or snack. The foam strip blends with chewing gum and prevents gum sticking everywhere.
